Arkansas, in six lines

Straight from the Arkansas guide. Where we couldn't confirm something from an official source, the guide says to ask the agency, and so does this page.

  • Certified copies

From the county clerk that issued your marriage license (Pulaski, Sebastian and Faulkner list $5.00 per certified copy), or from the Arkansas Department of Health ($10.00).

  • Revenue Office

Arkansas law gives you 10 days after a name change by marriage to notify the Office of Driver Services. Bring your recorded marriage license to a Revenue Office.

  • Deadline

Yes. Arkansas law (A.C.A. §27-16-506) says to notify the Office of Driver Services within 10 days of a name change by marriage.

  • Social Security online

Arkansas licenses and IDs qualify, and so do Arkansas marriage records. Because Arkansas marriage records qualify for the online route, couples married in Arkansas may be able to start their Social Security update online.

  • Voter registration

Fill in a Voter Registration Application, check "This is a name change" and give it to your county clerk.

  • Social Security first?

The DFA doesn't publish a rule on this. Its list asks for your recorded marriage license and documents linking your names. Updating Social Security first (step 2) keeps your records matching. Ask your Revenue Office if you're unsure.
