At a glance

Oklahoma, in six lines

Straight from the Oklahoma guide. Where we couldn't confirm something from an official source, the guide says to ask the agency, and so does this page.

  • Certified copies

From the court clerk in the county that issued your marriage license (Oklahoma and Cleveland counties $2.00 certified; Tulsa $1.50 plus a $5.00 search fee). The state health department doesn't issue marriage records.

  • Service Oklahoma

Oklahoma law gives you 10 days after a name change by marriage to apply for a replacement license. Report the change to Social Security first; a duplicate is $25.

  • Deadline

Yes. Oklahoma law (47 O.S. §6-116) says to apply for a replacement license within 10 days of a name change by marriage.

  • Social Security online

Oklahoma licenses and IDs qualify; Oklahoma marriage records don't. Because Oklahoma marriage records don't qualify for the online route, couples married in Oklahoma should plan on an in-person or mail application.

  • Voter registration

Submit a new voter registration application with your new name and your previous registration details, at least 25 days before an election.

  • Social Security first?

Yes. Service Oklahoma's driver manual says to report your name change to Social Security before changing your license.

Where to order your marriage certificate

In Oklahoma you get your marriage license from the court clerk in your county, and that office sells certified copies. The Oklahoma State Department of Health says to contact the court clerk in the county of the event for marriage records. Service Oklahoma requires the certified document; notarized documents and photocopies aren't accepted.
